NFF Described Flying Eagles’ Play In FIFA U-20 World Cup As ‘Horrible’

The Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has described the performance of the Flying Eagles at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey as “horrible”.
The Coach John Obuh-tinkered Flying Eagles, Tuesday, crashed out in the second round of the tournament, following a 2-1 defeat in the hands of Uruguay, whose senior side, had earlier accounted for the elimination of the Super Eagles at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.
It was double jeopardy for Nigerians, who in the space of a little over a week, had seen their teams suffer consecutive defeats in the hands of the South Americans at a global event.  And reacting to the results, a member of the NFF’s Technical Committee, Paul Bassey told Sports Vanguard that the Flying Eagles did not know what they were doing in Turkey.

Fred put Brazil on the board less than two minutes into the match, Neymar added to the lead just before half-time and Fred netted his fifth goal in five matches early in the second half to give Brazil victory. The win for the host nation was surprisingly easy against the current world champion.

Sergio Ramos missed a penalty kick for Spain in the 55th, sending his low shot wide.

Italy Will Not Quit The Confederations Cup As Prandelli Clarifies Balotelli “Joke.”

Cesare Prandelli has said Italy will not quit the Confederations Cup due to the huge protests that have swept the country.
An estimated 1.25 million people took to the streets in scores of cities on Thursday evening to call for better public services and to criticise the cost of organising the Confederations Cup and next year’s World Cup.
Many of the protest marches, which began last week, have culminated in violent clashes between demonstrators and riot police, but Prandelli said the Italy squad had no plans to leave the country.
“Our officials have absolutely not proposed going home,” he said during a press conference in Salvador, the day before Italy’s final Group A game against hosts Brazil.

Cup win’ll motivate Eagles to do more – Ugbade

China ‘85 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner Nduka  Ugbade has tipped the Super Eagles to book their ticket to the Brazil 2014 World Cup finals with no  Nigerian ‘hospitalised’ for high blood pressure like in the past, saying the Africa Cup of Nations triumph  will motivate the team.
Nigeria  on February 10 beat the Stallions of Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final of the South Africa 2013 to win the trophy for the third time, after  they were champions on home soil in 1980 and at the Tunisia ’94 finals.
Speaking to our correspondent on the telephone during the week, Ugbade, a member of the Tunisia ’94 winning squad, said the  players would be fired up for the  World Cup qualifiers  by the South Africa 2013 success.

Now, I want Confederations Cup –Mikel

Mikel Obi tells MTNFootball.com  his next target is to make another history by winning the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Did you believe from the onset Nigeria would be champions again?
Yes. We had it at the back of our mind to win right from the training camp in Portugal. We were driven to write our names in gold, make Nigerians happy and with hard work, God made it possible for us.
After the first two games, where the Eagles drew with Burkina Faso and Zambia, millions of Nigerians lost hope in the team. Was that the same feeling in the team?
There was no point in the competition that I, for one, felt we won’t win it. I told you before we went for the tournament that there are no small teams in football again. I knew it won’t be an easy task for us, so we prepared for it and kept believing in ourselves even when things looked difficult.

Win Nations Cup for us, Drogba begs Eagles

By Tony Ubani
Even in defeat, Didier Tebily Yves Drogba was graceful. Despite swallowing the bitter pill of defeat that has dented his beautiful career – without a Nations Cup trophy, the Ivorian has sent a passionate plea to the Super Eagles
“Please, win the Nations Cup for us”, he pleaded as he hugged Stephen Keshi and his former teammate Mikel Obi after the 2-1 defeat in the quarter final match at Rustenberg.

Drogba’s army of super stars were tipped by all and sundry to win the match against a relatively young and inexperienced Super Eagles. The Eagles stepped up their game and were immaculate in their form, attack, defence and discipline. They stung Cote d’Ivoire and have made their critics to swallow their words.

Eagles Can Win Nations Cup Without Me – Martins

Unlike his compatriot who went on an emotional outburst against football administrators in the country, team coaches, former players and even veiled attacks on present players in the national team, Obafemi Martins has maintained a studied silence on his exclusion from the provisional 32-man list that was released by coach Stephen Keshi that will fight for a place to represent the country at the forthcoming Orange African Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Osaze good to go for Nations Cup, says Brom coach

West Brom coach, Steve Clarke stated that his star striker, Peter Osaze Odemwingie will certainly make the Nigerian team to the 2013 Nations Cup, following his excellent form. He added that he was already preparing room for Osaze’s imminent absence during the month long tournament. Clarke said that he has no doubt that Osaze’s current fine form will be too much for Eagles coach Stephen Keshi to resist when making his final list of players for the Nations Cup.
