A 29-year-old man reportedly sent an abusive text message to his 43-year-old biological brother saying he was a son of a serial prostitute before he allegedly threatened to kill him as punishment for disrespecting him.
He said his brother's days would be numbered if he continued staying in Bulawayo. The satirical attack came after the two brothers had an argument over how they were supposed to run an unspecified type of family business in which they are both directors.
Fearing for his life and that his toes were ominously close to having been tagged for the morgue, Steward Gondo went and reported the life-threatening messages to the police leading to the arrest of his younger brother, Alexander Rwauya Gondo.He said his brother's days would be numbered if he continued staying in Bulawayo. Alexander of House No. 599 Nkulumane 5, for the offence of denigrating his brother and threatening to cut his life short, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Tawanda Muchemwa. He was charged with contravening section 88 (a) of the Posts and telecommunication Services Act Chapter 12:02 (sending or conveying threatening messages over the phone).
Circumstances are that on 6 December 2012, Alexander, who after picking an argument with his brother over the running of their family business, sent him a threatening message saying he was giving him a day to leave Bulawayo and failure to run away he would allegedly kill him.
"I have given you enough respect. I am after you and giving you one day to leave this city or you are a dead man. You don't know me well," reads part of the message.
As if the first message was not enough to provoke his brother, Alexander went on to send another denigrating text message saying the complainant was a son of a serial prostitute and he was not his young brother as he was disrespecting him. The last close of the abusive message seems to have stretched Steward's patience to the limit and subscribing to the rule of law, he went and reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of his abusive brother.
For the offence, Alexander was not formally charged and was remanded out of custody to 9 January on US$50 bail.
