Nigeria Victor Moses and John Mikel Obi Nominated For BBC African Footballer Of The Year!!

The shortlist of five candidates for the 2013 BBC African-american Footballer of the Year merit has been introduced by the BBC today, Nov 11, 2013, Monday.  Nigerian Footballers Victor Moses (Liverpool, on loan from Chelsea) and John Mikel Obi (Chelsea) are joined by Burkina Faso's Jonathan Pitroipa (Rennes) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon (Borussia Dortmund).

R.I.P: Footballer Christian Benítez dies at 27 after suffering heart attack

 Former Birmingham City striker Christian Benítez died in hospital in Qatar today from complications leading to cardiac arrest at the age of 27. The striker from Ecuador died just weeks after a £10million move to Qatar side, El Jaish.  The Ecuadorian Football Federation said on their website that Benitez 'had severe stomach pain, was rushed to a hospital, where after a few hours suffered cardio respiratory arrest, which ended his life.' Christian is survived by his wife, children and his father, former Ecuador international footballer Ermen Benítez. May his soul rest in peace..amen.

SHORTLIST FOR THE CAF 2012 AFRICAN FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR REVEALED



The Awards Gala has been scheduled to take place in Ghana on December 20 and the eventual winners will be decided via a vote by Head coaches and technical directors from CAF member associations. 

Unlike lastyear when no Nigerian made the list, Chelsea's John Obi Mikel is the only Nigerian shortlisted for the award. 

SHORTLISTED PLAYERS
