Gareth Bale becomes world’s expensive player
Gareth Bale’s prolonged transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid was finally completed for an unconfirmed world record fee on Sunday after the Spanish club officially announced the move.
“Real Madrid and Tottenham have reached an agreement for the transfer of Gareth Bale,” confirmed a statement on the club’s website.
“The player will be tied to the club for the next six seasons.”
Widespread reports in England have suggested that the move will make Bale the world’s most expensive player with Real set to pay 101 million euros ($133.5 million, £86 million) for his services.
However, media in Spain insisted on Sunday that Real will only pay 91 million euros, three million less than Los Blancos paid for Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2009.

Player transfer: Nani and Wayne Rooney to leave Man U for PSG
The Mill has changed, man. It was not all that long ago that a trawl through the day’s tabloid tittle-tattle might bring news of a new transfer target for Burton Albion or who Gillingham could be looking at bringing in. Wondering about Morecambe’s summer spending plans? This was the place to be. Well, sometimes. OK, once. But not now. These days it’s all about the big boys. Indeed it’s all about the biggest boys.
And today’s red-top rumours are a case in point. If you’re not at the top of the football food-chain then you’re not getting a look in. PSG, for example are confident of sealing a £25m move for Wayne Rooney in the summer. And they also want Nani to take their Old Trafford spending up to £40m. Former PSG director Michel Moulin said: “I announce to you from trusted sources: Rooney to PSG is done. He will be there next season.”

Wenger to buy ‘exceptional player’ in January
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted he will only spend in the January transfer window for an “exceptional player” to boost his squad. Wenger has money to spend and was expected to bring in a few new faces after a poor run of form last month. However, the Gunners have won their last three Premier League games to put themselves back in the top four and Wenger has hinted he will not spend big in the New Year unless a top talent becomes available. “We are in the market, but only if we find players who will really strengthen us because we have a good squad. But if we find an exceptional player then we will take him,” Wenger told the Daily Mirror.“We lacked fluidity in our attacks against Wigan and continuity in our attacking play but we won because of our will to win. And, with the way things are now, I won’t turn my nose up at that.”

During President Barack Obama’s address on the Newtown, Connecticut shooting on Sunday night, North Alabama player Bradley Patterson sent out a racist tweet directed towards him.
“Take that [expletive] off the tv, we wanna watch football!” Patterson, whose account has since been deleted, tweeted.
