The path to history for Messi is paved in goal scoring and at the age of 25, he is already breaking and setting records of his own and he doesn’t look like he is about to slow down yet. Last night, the Barcelona forward again set the record for most goals in a calendar year by scoring his 86th goal of 2012 thereby surpassing Gerd Mueller’s 40-year old tally of 85 – to set a new benchmark which includes goals for club and country.
To set the record, Messi found the net twice for Barcelona in a 2-1 win over Real Betis on Sunday.
