Pres.GEJ promises to host Commonwealth games medal winners

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday promised to get and honour athletes who won medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games which ended in Glasgow, Scotland at the weekend. In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, Jonathan promised to honour the athletes and coaches. He however didn't disclose when the reception will hold. He congratulated all members of the Nigerian team for what he called their sterling performance at the event. The President particularly applauded the elating accomplishment of Blessing Okagbare who he explained gloriously dominated the feminine sprint events, and other athletes who won medals for the united states at the games. The statement read simply, 

“The President believes that the athletes’ very impressive performance at the games which resulted in Nigeria ranking 8th out of 71 participating countries is a further demonstration of the indomitable spirit of Nigerians and the great heights they can attain with hard work, commitment, dedication, courage and patriotism. “President Jonathan assures the athletes and their handlers that his Administration will continue to do its best to encourage them and support sports development in the country. “He looks forward to receiving and honouring the medal winners and their coaches at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.”

Nigeria to play Rwanda in AFCON qualifier

The Super Eagles will play the Amavubi of Rwanda in Group A of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, starting in September, the Confederation of African Football has said.
Rwanda defeated Congo 4-3 on penalties on Saturday to complete the pool for the final phase of qualifiers for the competition which hold in Morocco .
The other teams that made it to the final phase are Botswana , Lesotho , Malawi , Mozambique , Sierra Leone and Uganda .

Chris Brown & his former rival Drake were supposed to perform together for the first time at Drake's OVO Music Festival in Toronto, Canada tomorrow August 4th nonetheless it got turn off due to Chris'felony record.

TMZ reports 

Chris Brown and Drake planned to unveil their new song Monday in Toronto, but the plan was scrapped because Chris can't get in to the country... TMZ has learned. We're told Drake invited Chris to join him Monday night on stage at his OVO Fest. We're told Chris agreed and the plan was for them to perform the song on which they collaborated last month.
The performance would have been big for 2 reasons -- it's the first time they performed together, and we're told there are veiled references to Rihanna in the song. Continue...

Nightmare trip for Nigerian basketballers

Ganiyu Yahaya’s family lives in a Nigerian village that makes it difficult to chase basketball dreams. The nearest court is more than an hour’s drive away.
Transportation is expensive and money is tight, so for Yahaya a trip to the court is a kind of pilgrimage. When school is not in session, the 17-year-old and others play basketball all day and sleep on the court’s edges at night, sometimes for several days in a row. It is not ideal, but it is the only option, and potentially the only way to a better life.

Ronaldo refuses to rule out Man Utd return



Cristiano Ronaldo has refused to rule out a return to Manchester United in the future and maintains his “love” for his former club.

The 29-year-old joined Real Madrid from the Red Devils in a €94 million deal in 2009 after spending six seasons at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo, who will not face United in Saturday’s pre-season friendly in Michigan due to fitness concerns, admits he sees his former club as a “second family” but reiterates that he is happy to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu for now.

Esther Onyema and Loveline Obiji completed a Commonwealth Games double for Team Nigeria in the women’s para-sport event on Day 10, clinching two powerlifting gold medals.

Both paralympians, named Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) by President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012, broke the world records in their respective categories to increase the country’s gold medal haul to 9 at the Clyde Auditorium on Saturday morning.  Obiji, 23, set a new women’s heavyweight powerlifting world record with a best lift of 144.0kg in her third attempt to amass a total of 122.4 points and win gold.
