Senate President's blood pressure rises as Eagles demand $2m

Senate President, David Mark, got a taste of the national team camp when he held a meeting with the Super Eagles in Campinas just before their opening match against Iran in Group F of the 2014 World Cup on Monday.
Mark led the Federal Government delegation to the World Cup in Brazil.
Our correspondent learnt that Mark had demanded to hear the players’ grievances with the aim of settling the rift between them and the Nigeria Football Federation over their bonus. The players allegedly asked Mark to pay them $2m immediately from the $8m the NFF was expecting from FIFA for the first round matches since he was the third in authority in Nigeria and representing the President. The players maintained that they should get 25 per cent of the money.

The Volyn winger, whose inclusion in Nigeria’s 23-man squad to the World Cup raised dust, has promised to turn in more good performances for the Eagles.

He said,

Messi saves gambler £200,000

Lionel Messi’s dramatic late winner in Argentina’s World Cup match against Iran on Saturday rescued one Las Vegas gambler from losing £200,000, ESPN reports.
Messi curled in a stunning finish from outside the area in injury time to seal a 1-0 win in the Group F clash.
That strike, Messi’s second of the tournament in Brazil, came as a relief to the Argentina fans at the stadium Belo Horizonte who are dreaming of a third World Cup triumph for their country, but one punter 6,000 miles away will have felt a mighty weight lift from his shoulders for a very different reason.

#18 KADUNA STATE: The 36 States Of Nigeria And Their Meanings

The state was named after its distinctively golden-coloured soil, Jigawa. Jigawa can also be translated to mean sand or sandy in Hausa. The colour is said to stand for the resilience, strength, determination and endurance that comes with living in the dry Sahel and Savanna, in which the state is located.

#16 IMO STATE: The 36 States Of Nigeria And Their Meanings

16. IMO STATE
This wonderful state is named after the Imo River (Imo Mmiri). Its main tributaries are the Otamiri (a very important river in the state too)and the Njaba, Ulasi, Oramirukwa rivers. According to some, there is a deity (alusi) who owns the river (provides water for fishing, transport and agriculture) and there is a festival for the goddess between May and July during which it overflows its banks. Imo Mmiri is also considered a goddess of fertility and is particularly respected in the Ngwa and Mbaise communities. A bridge crosses the Imo River to connect Rivers State and Akwa Ibom. One of the biggest rivers in Igboland, it starts from the Okigwe/Awka uplands and runs for about 240 km before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean.

#14 ENUGU STATE: The 36 States Of Nigeria And Their Meanings

14. ENUGU STATE
Also known as Nigeria’s coal city, Enugu derived its name from two local words enu ugwu which means ‘top of the hill’. Amazingly, that itself is a derivative of the village of Enugu Ngwo, which is located just to the west of the city. Enugu City itself is not on the hill, it is actually at the base of a plateau but the village is situated right on top of the hill. I hope Governor Sullivan Iheanacho Chime will triumphantly conquer the particular hill he is climbing right now.
