2014 Channel O Africa Music Video Awards Nominees Revealed

Channel O just announced the nominees for the 2014 Channel O Africa Music Video Awards and Davido leads with five nominations including; Most Gifted Male Video, Most Gifted Afro Pop Video, Most Gifted West Video and Most Gifted Video of the Year, all for Aye and Most Gifted Dance Video for Skelewu. 2face, Tiwa Savage, Seyi Shay, Kcee, P-Square, Orezi, Jesse Jagz, Flavour, Patoranking, Iyanya, Niyola, Burna Boy, Phyno and Dr Sid were all nominated.

The award will take place on Saturday, 29 November at Nasrec Expo Centre in Soweto. Continue to see full list of nominees...

Nigerian artistes take over MAMA 2014 nominations; Davido leads

  Africa's number one music authority, MTV Base has announced the nominees for this year's MTV Africa Music Awards.  The announcement was made tonight, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 at an impressive nominations party at The Sands in Johannesburg, South Africa.

 

This year's nominations prove that Nigerian music has fast absorbed Africa. Out of fifteen different categories, Nigeria has been nominated in eleven categories and includes a number of the biggest names in the Nigerian entertainment industry including Omotola Jalade, Chimamanda Adichie, 2Face, PSquare, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Olamide, Flavour among many others.

Inspired by the swelling audience, sensational performers 2face, M.I, Olamide, Naeto C and Phyno literally ‘raised the roof’ as they performed hit after hit to the delight of demanding fans at the first stage of Star Music Trek 2014 in Nsukka, Enugu State.
Excited music lovers who stormed Local Government Stadium, Nsukka, -venue of the event- were not disappointed as it appeared that the artistes had made a secret pact earlier to ensure they spent every minute dancing excitedly to the music.
Host, Dotun of Cool FM, took time to warmly welcome guests from far and wide as he introduced artistes to the cheers of the audience.

The World Music Awards are based on sales merit and voted by the public on the Internet.
Some of Nigeria’s music stars including Tuface, Iyanya, D’banj, Tiwa Savage, Davido, and Wizkid bagged nominations in various categories at the 2014 World Music Awards.

With the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, IFPI, providing the organizers with the names of the best-selling artists from all major territories, the World Music Awards, which is regarded as the best music awards because of its transparency, will honour the best-selling recording artists from every continent.
The World Music Awards are based on sales merit and voted by the public on the Internet as there is no jury involved.

'No sponsor influenced winners of Headies Award'- Ayo Animasahun

Ayo Animashaun, the brain behind the Headies Award has reacted to criticisms that trailed the award in 2013. Critics of the award which held December 26th 2013 believed that the winners were largely dictated by the lead sponsor of the show, making the organizers give awards only to artistes who are ambassadors of the lead sponsor and not necessarily to those who merited it.

Olamide gives free of charge October concert

Rapper, Durosoke hit-maker and rave of the minute; Olamideis set to do at a free of charge concert this month. This event is powered by Koga Entertainment; the guys behind the Top 10 Mics franchise. Officially tagged “ONE NIGHT STAND” this live music showcase may also feature performances by Jaywon, Eva Alordiah, Ketchup and Phenom. 

Rounding out the performance list is Timix, AT, Splash and fuji sensation Q.Dot. This free concert will be on  Saturday, October 26 at Koga Studios, that will be located at No. 2 Bolaji Street, off KudiratAbiola way, Oregun, AlausaIkeja, Lagos. Award-winning singing duo, Peter and Paul Okoye famously known as P-Square are the highest paid hip-hop artistes right now, ENCOMIUM Weekly findings have revealed. The Okoyes are currently charging between N9 and N10 million for a show within Nigeria…..

Apart from information gathered from the source close to the duo, independent music promoters/artiste managers also confirmed this, declaring the Koko master, D’Banj as the second highest paid artiste. The DB Record boss charges between N6 and N7 million as a standard show fee.

Music website NotJustOk yesterday released a list of their Top 10 Most Gifted Rappers in Nigeria and placed Olamide as the second best rapper in Nigeria after Modenine. See the list below...

Personal opinion and with all due respect to other rappers in Nigeria, but I think M.I is in a class of his own. I think he's not just the best rapper in Nigeria, he's the best rapper in Africa. Like, he's not even on anyone's level. He shouldn't even be on this list. We should be comparing M.I to Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar and the likes and not Olamide or Phyno. That's my personal opinion.
