Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has played down the injury sustained by strikers Victor Moses and Emmanuel Emenike during the second half of the semi-final match against Mali in Durban on Wednesday. Moses was withdrawn early in the half for Ahmed Musa and it was thought that he could have sustained a muscle strain which could keep him out of the Sunday final.
Emenike was also stretchered to the sideline after he appeared to have sustained a muscle cramp while attempting to score. But Keshi said he was hopeful that the duo would feature on Sunday.
“Victor Moses injury will not be serious, hopefully,” Keshi said.
“But we will know about that tomorrow (Thursday) when the doctor runs the scan and all the stuff. I am hoping that he will play on Sunday. We need everybody in the team.”
Emenike found the back of the net in the first half to put his goal haul at four in the competition, Moses was in fantastic form before his removal as he was instrumental to the first goal scored by Elderson Echiejile in the 25th minute.
Moses was a thorn in the flesh of the Malians as he terrorised them constantly. In his absence, Musa could be used in the wide position because of his speed and goal-scoring ability. He scored the fourth goal on Wednesday and had another goal disallowed soon after. The strike against the Malians was his first at the championship.
