Bolt regains world 100m concept in emphatic model

MOSCOW (AFP) – Jamaican sprint star Usain Bolt lifted track and field out of the doping doldrums as he reclaimed his world 100m title in emphatic style on Sunday.

Bolt clocked a season’s best 9.77 seconds in heavy rain at the Luzhniki Stadium, with American Justin Gatlin claiming silver in 9.85sec and Nesta Carter, also of Jamaica, taking bronze in 9.95sec.
Athletics’ credibility had again been called to account in recent weeks, notably after American sprint rival Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell tested positive for drugs.

Okagbare Sets New African 100m Record

Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare on Saturday broke the African women’s 100m record twice at the ongoing Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games in London. The rangy Nigerian sprinter coasted home in an impressive 10.86 seconds winning time in the semi-finals of the women’s 100m event to erase compatriot Glory Alozie’s 10.90secs set in 1999.

But Okagbare was not done yet as she put up another heroic performance in the final to break the African record she had set earlier in the heats to win in a time of 10.7secs ahead of second–placed Barbara Pierre of the United States – who clocked a joint personal best time of 10.85sec- and Trinidad’s Kelly-Ann Baptiste (third in 10.93secs).

Usain Bolt beaten by Justin Gatlin in 100m in Rome

US sprinter Justin Gatlin beat six-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt in the men's 100 metres race at the Rome Golden Gala, Diamond League, which took place today. Justin beat Usain by one-hundredth of a second, that's like 1% of a second. Justin actually had to dip his head within the line to win in 9.94 seconds. Usain came in 9.95. Usain was making his first appearance in the Diamond League this year since his recent recovery from the hamstring injury. Usain explained what happened to him: "I got the perfect start that I wanted, then about five steps in I stumbled a little and that type of threw my game off. My legs didn't feel like my legs entering the straight.

I suppose I need to do more strength work. I do believe I just need time to obtain it back together but the very fact I got a good beginning threw me off. At the least I got under 10 seconds. "It is always a good thing to lose. You can figure how exactly to step it up. I knew I wasn't in great shape but I'm not worried. It does take time to obtain back to shape and I didn't expect much using this race." Usain's next race is going to be in the men's 200m in next Thursday's Diamond League meeting in Oslo.
