Sports festival: Scandal rocks Niger State sports

AHEAD of 2014 National Sports Festival taking place in Calabar by November, Niger State sports ministry has been enmeshed in scandal over alleged addition of fictitious names on the list of players by some top management staff.

It has been alleged that plans by some senior staff of the ministry to smuggle some names on the list being shortlisted ahead of the event blew open when some coaches protested against the distortion of players’ list they had submitted to the ministry for consideration.

It was also gathered that the coaches were not happy with the development.

Ross Barkley Signs Everton Contract Extension Until 2018

Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has signed a four-year contract extension at Goodison Park.

The England international scored six league goals in 34 appearances last season.
He was named in Eangland’s World Cup squad and featured in all three of the country’s games as they crashed out in the group stage in Brazil.
“It (signing a new contract) means everything. It’s a dream playing for Everton,” said Barkley in his news conference.

Team Nigeria’s wrestler took the country’s struggle for more medals in their own hands on Day 6 of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, winning silver and three bronze medals to take the country’s medal haul to 14.

Nigeria occupied the 12th position on the medal standings at the end of Tuesday’s Medal Events, with Ebikweminomo Welson, 21, donned in silver following his 6-2 loss to India’s Amit Kumar in the final of the men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling.

The trio of Blessing Onyebuchi, 30, Sinivie Boltic, 32, and Melvin Bibo, 37, all claimed bronze.
Welson’s cruised into the final after successive 4-0 wins each, over eventual Bronze medalist, Wales’ Craig Piling (in the semi-final), and England’s Omar Tafail in the quarter-final.

Liverpool signs Divock Origi £10m Origi From Lille

Liverpool have signed  from Lille Metropole for a fee of £10m.

The 19-year-old Belgian has put pen to the dotted lines on a long-term contract and becomes the Red's sixth signing of the summer. Man Utd’s Performance Against Inter Pleases Van Gaal

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has expressed satisfaction with his side’s performance in Saturday night’s win over Inter Milan.

Juventus Boss Says Vidal Won’t Be Sold

Juventus CEO Guiseppe Marotta is adamant that Arturo Vidal will not be sold as long as the Chilean is happy in Turin.

The 27-year-old has been one of Manchester United’s top targets this summer, with a €54 million bid being prepared, and Goalunderstands that Vidal met with his agent and senior officials on Sunday evening to discuss the possibility of a transfer to Old Trafford.
