I want to act young Okonjo-Iweala in a Nigerian film – Tayo Elesin

Tayo Elesin is a British-Nigerian actress. She also prefers to be referred to as a “storyteller.”  Famous for her roles in some BBC TV productions including Casualty, Law and Order, Doctor, among others, Tayo has also acted in the critically acclaimed play by late Ola Rotimi ‘Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again’ produced last year by Lookman Sanusi. While in the country recently, she paid a courtesy visit to the Vanguard corporate office, where she spoke passionately about playing the role of younger Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala whenever a biographical film is done about her. She also disclosed  why she hate the name ‘Nollywood’; and how to reposition the Nigerian film industry, among other issues. Enjoy!

Jah bless! Jesse Jagz performs all-new single on Nigerian Idol

If you missed Nigerian Idol show this past Saturday and Sunday, you missed two utterly engaging shows. Not only was the comeback queen with nine lives, aka Safeeyat, saved by the judges, the contestants gave the performances of their lives, and, Jesse Jagz was in the building.

It was an off-the-charts weekend for the show, and though the elimination night was definitely a shocker with Safeeyat ousted in a shocking elimination, she was saved by Jeffrey Daniel, Yinka Davies and Femi Kuti, using up the one lifeline of the competition.

Nigerian Idol 3 Top 6 performances

Sunday night on Nigerian Idol 3, sponsored by Etisalat Nigeria, was totally ethnic to the core! From Ankarashoes to strictly local songs, the Top 6 contestants gave their Nigerian best. Were you aware it was the Nigerian Music Week? It was hard not to laugh at the judges and host, Ill Rhymz when their baby photos appeared on the screen, just before performances started on the Top 6 Gala Show.

Right now, the 6 contestants left are Safeeyat, Debbie Rise, Efezino, Jay Feel, Abasi Akang and Moses. Voting for any of these contestants must be difficult! The performances were simply, in one word, electric! Songs performed were strictly Nigerian ones done by favourites like Seyi Shay, Omawumi and Chuddy K.

The 3rd guest judge to join Femi Kuti, Jeffrey Daniels and Yinka Davies turned out to be broadcaster and voice-over artiste, Femi Sowoolu. His voice is truly legendary! So far, Sasha and Naeto C have been guest judges on the NI3. If you missed seeing the judges dancing azonto, maybe you should tune in on Sunday next week! More photos After The Break

Nigerian Idol Top 6 Bring It Home With Nigerian Hit Songs

It was all about coming home as the Nigerian Idol top 6 were all about music from our shores as they took their song choices from the current hits flooding the Nigerian airwaves, all by Nigerian artists. Femi Sowoolu taking on the mantle of guest judge for the show, and for the first time, the contestants were paired up and singing duets.

Seyi Shay was the first artist covered, as Efezino performed her hit song ‘Loving Your Way’. It seemed she sold both the crowd and the judges on her performance because she was told by Jeffrey Daniel, “You were killing it on the chorus…a pleasant performance.” Yinka Davies followed up with, ‘It was more than pleasant I loved it!” And Femi Kuti gave his seal of approval, telling her that she seemed really comfortable on stage.

Nigerian Idol top8: a big night for 3 contestants, but will it save them?

Another night, and another fantastic episode of the smash reality television show, Nigerian Idol. After the rather painful departure of Joe Emmal and Amara, eight contestants are now left on the show, and they are bent on demonstrating to Nigeria that they have what it takes to be named the next Nigerian Idol.

This week the theme was centred on songs from the greatest groups of all time, from The Temptations to the Pussycat Dolls. The contestants were on fire on Sunday night and with guest judge, first lady of rap Sasha P sitting on the panel, it was truly an amazing night. Sasha told the audience, “I'm waiting to be wowed by everybody...I'm rooting for every one of them and I'm waiting to be entertained.”

Super Eagles Rejected Our S(e)x Offer – Association Of Nigerian Prostitutes

It was reported few weeks ago that the Association of Nigerian Prostitutes (ANP), the umbrella body of commercial s*x workers in the country vowed to declare one week free s*x should the Super Eagles of Nigeria  return home with the African Cup of Nations trophy.
We also exclusively reported that the association sent over 113 members to South Africa  to cheer the Eagles to victory in the final cracker against the Stallions of Burkina Faso, which Nigeria won by a lone goal.
It was gathered that shortly after the victory last Sunday, one of the ringleaders approached a top member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) who was in South Africa to watch the match about their promise.
