Mother Stabbed 7-Year-Old Daughter 31 Times Before Committing Suicide

It was revealed today that the doctor who stabbed her seven-year-old daughter 31 times before killing herself had a major confrontation with her relatives in the weeks preceding her suicide.

Victoria Vovchik, 45, told a friend that her relatives were 'all dead to me now' after a massive falling out. Vovchik was discovered lying dead in the master bedroom of her New City, New York home when the father of her daughter came to pick the girl up.

The daughter, Ava Sangavaram, was found lying nearby but in spite of her significant injuries, she was 'alert and responsive' when emergency crews arrived on scene.

Nigerian Idol top8: a big night for 3 contestants,but will it save them?

Another night, and another fantastic episode of the smash reality television show, Nigerian Idol. After the rather painful departure of Joe Emmal and Amara, eight contestants are now left on the show, and they are bent on demonstrating to Nigeria that they have what it takes to be named the next Nigerian Idol.

This week the theme was centred on songs from the greatest groups of all time, from The Temptations to the Pussycat Dolls. The contestants were on fire on Sunday night and with guest judge, first lady of rap Sasha P sitting on the panel, it was truly an amazing night. Sasha told the audience, “I'm waiting to be wowed by everybody...I'm rooting for every one of them and I'm waiting to be entertained.”

Emenike: ''I Miss Football!''

Africa Nations Cup top scorer Emmanuel Emenike has lamented that he is missing the game of football as he remains sidelined by a long-term hamstring injury. The striker cried out on Sunday as European leagues continued on their last stretch for the current season.

“I miss football. Football is part of me and I always want to play,” Emenike told MTNFootball.com on phone from his base in Russia.

The second round of the Russian Premier League will resume this week with Emenike’s Spartak home to closest rivals Terek Grosny.

Jonathan Announces N3 Billion New Grant For Nollywood

President Goodluck Jonathan has unveiled a N3 billion package to help turnaround Nigeria’s movie industry, Nollywood, which has seen growth in production and sales within past years, but remains heavily criticized for low content quality.

The package, to be launched as “Project Nollywood”, will include grants for the best film scripts, a capacity development fund, and funds for supporting the industry’s infrastructure,” the president said.

Oduamadi seeks Nigeria recall

AC Milan’s Nnamdi Oduamadi is in the frame for a return to the Nigeria national team after head coach; Stephen Keshi voiced his admiration of winger. The 22-year-old currently on loan at Serie B club, AS Varese 1910 has wowed Nigerian football fans with big performances in the few games he had played at age grade level for the national team. Keshi has now revealed that the Oduamadi is in his plans as he looks to re-enforce the reigning African champions.

“(Nnamdi) Oduamadi is in my plans. He is a very intelligent and tricky player and I like him a lot,” Keshi told supersport.com. Keshi will release the list of Nigeria players that will face Kenya in a 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifying game shortly but he however refrained from making any definite comments on Oduamadi getting an invitation to the squad to face the Harambee Stars.

Trouble: Obafemi Martins, is no longer in the good books of his team

NIGERIAN striker, Obafemi Martins, is no longer in the good books of his team mates at Spanish La Liga side, Levante, following the player’s intention to move to Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit, Seattle Sounders.

The Nigerian expressed his interest on a local radio programme Cadena Ser Valencia earlier in the week but club captain, Juanfran, says Martins chose the wrong forum and has provoked a dressing-room discontent.

‘’We have been talking to him to be clear and we will not talk about it anymore. The captains have met and told him that he made a mistake,” the 36-year-old revealed.

“Here in Spain we treat these issues in a certain way and maybe he comes from somewhere where it is handled differently.

Chelsea players make fun of Benitez

Rafael Benitez again dominates the back pages of the newspapers as his funeral match as Chelsea boss drones on.

The most interesting piece comes from the Daily Mail where Neil Ashton, who is known to have strong contacts within the club, lifts the lid on what went down during Chelsea’s training on Thursday – the morning after Rafa’s rant at Middlesbrough.

According to Ashton “Benitez acted as though nothing had happened” during a short training session with the players at Cobham.

“As the players waited in the changing room to go out for a short, sharp warm-down, they poked fun at Benitez while watching repeats of his meltdown on Sky News.”

Nigeria league waits on N200m bail out

Doubts surround the March 9 start of the Nigeria league as it has yet to receive a 200 million Naira (about $1.3m) government bail out.

A top official told MTNFootball.com: “We are yet to receive the grant government promised us to get the league off the ground and as a result we may not start the league on the day advertised.”
The league needs cash to pay for referees’ indemnities and other logistical considerations.
Chariman of an interim committee to run the league, Nduka Irabor, announced earlier this month that they have been promised a grant by government to get the new season going as sponsorship wranglings have persisted despite assurances these have been resolved.

Upcoming artiste, Password released the song July 8th, 2011 and it was posted by online blogs that existed then. Our team listened closely to the song and yes, it wasn’t sampled David Oyeleke, popularly known as Davido copied the lyrics and also have beat sampled, same chorus. Password Management hinted taking the matter to court, we will keep you guys posted as events unfold on this matter. It should be recalled that Skuki also accused Davido of stealing their beat for his “Overseas” song.

Vicci & Immaculate Victoria are 1st evictees from Nigerian Idol Top12

Just a week after the unveiling of the Top 12 contestants in the on-going Etisalat sponsored music reality TV show, Nigerian Idol Season 3, Immaculate Victoria and Vicci have been evicted during the first Gala Stage Result Show, bringing the competition down to 10 contestants. 

Vicci, whose real name is Victor Chidiebere Ijomah, although sad said he is positive that he will ‘make it’ in the industry because according to him music has always been a part of his life. “All I just need is for someone to put me in the studio and I am so sure I will make it,” Vicci said.  But the case was not the same for Oreoluwa Liyele a.k.a Immaculate Victoria, the New Jersey University undergraduate who was too shocked to speak as tears ran freely down her cheeks.

The applause has died off. The 2013 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Nigeria team have played themselves into the annals of history. However, there are timeless lessons to be gleaned from the performance and attitudes of the Super Eagles coach and players. Here are ten of the most pertinent lessons.

1.    Stand your ground. When Keshi submitted his list of players, he was roundly lampooned for the list of players he came up with. The big name, perennial stalwarts were absent. Six of the players he selected played in the lackluster local league.  Keshi and his team were written off even before the games began. It is easier to swim in the direction in which a stream flows – but sometimes, true progress can only come by taking a stand that goes against the common grain.
