Sports: Tale of woes for Nigeria in 2012



Nigeria was part of the global sporting events in 2012, but the result pointed out to a dangerous trend as star names failed to lift the nation’s image. Blessing Okagbare and Chika Chukwumerije are the biggest names that shocked the nation.

Nigeria took part in the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.
In the 60m male event, Peter Emelezie had a fair start, qualifying from the heat with a time of 6.85 to reach the semifinals. But he failed to move on even with a better time of 6.81. United States’ Justin Gatlin eventually won gold, while Jamaica’s Nesta Carter came second. Dwain Chambers of Great Britain won the bronze medal.

Bebedi Alhaja Wins Big At Nigerian Music Video Awards (NMVA 2012 )+Full Winners List


The 2012 edition of the Nigerian Music Video Awards (NMVA) held on Thursday, December 20, 2012 inside the exhibition hall of the Eko Hotel and Suites Lagos with Tiwa Savage and Basketmouth as hosts.Up for grabs on the night were a total of 19 awards with each category having five nominees each with ‘Bebedi Alhaja’ by Sexy Steel emerging the biggest winner – the song scooped Video Of The Year, Best Director (Patrick Elis) & Best Indigenous Concept awards respectively.

Top ten hit songs that made 2012


Like hail stones, these hit songs came down on us; peaking as the year swung into a last quarter. Nigerian artists pushed their talents to the extremes to create a resounding 2012. Everyone wanted to make a name this year; to survive the market. Upcoming artists were particularly faced with the greatest challenges as fans besieged with new singles every other day only gave each new act a few seconds to grab their attention.
Many of these acts succeeded eventually; that’s why compiling this list was so difficult.

Chika Ike: Born 8 November, 1985, Chika is one of the most beautiful actresses in Nigeria.  In 2005, she got her first lead role in Bless the Child, a movie directed by Tchidi Chikere. She has so far starred in over 100 movies, some of which include One More Kiss, Royal Covenant, Tears in Marriage, Mirror of Beauty, Breaking News and Emotional Risk.

Chika’s marriage crashed last year on allegations of infidelity and irreconcilable differences. The Anambra State-born actress is the owner of Fancy Nancy Collections, a fashion store with branches in Lagos and Abuja. She is a Human Kinetics and Health Education graduate of the University of Lagos.

Mercy Johnson Tops 2012 Most Searched Nollywood Celebrity List For 2nd Year Running



Voluptuous actress, Mercy Johnson, we can authoritatively tell you, has emerged the most searched Nollywood celebrity and this is according to search engine giants, Google. The 2012 list was recently made available by the world’s foremost search engine, Google and for the consecutive year, the heavily pregnant actress dominated the list ahead of seeming ‘popular’ celebrities in the country.

Last year, Mercy Johnson notoriously sat atop that list following the controversy that surrounded her wedding to Prince Odi Okojie.

Wizkid, Aliko Dangote, Chris Attoh, Uti Nwachukwu Win At The 2012 Mode Men Of The Year Awards In Lag



Celebrities gathered at the just concluded 5th edition Mode Men of the Year Awards, organized by Mode Men magazine, in association with Johnnie Walker which took at Oriental – an upscale hotel, in Lekki Lagos.  Hosted by Nollywood star, Stella Damasus and TV personality, Frank Edoho, the event saw in attendance Uru Eke, Alex Ekubo, Efe Tommy, Elohor Aisien, Ugonna Omeruo, Seyi Shay, Lami Phillips, Rekana Sharon Ojong, Ifeanyi Dike Jnr, Beverly Naya, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, 2Face Idibia and many more.
The top honour of the night was none other than Nigerian business mogul, Aliko Dangote, who was not present at the award, as the Man of the Year.

Another year, another crop of musicians making bank. Forbes has released its list of highest-paid musicians, led this year not by a popstar or rock band, but a doctor. Despite sounding angry in every song, rapper and beatmaker Dr. Dre earned a cool $110 million between May 2011 and May 2012. Most of that had nothing to do with the production of music, though: Dre earned the vast majority of that from his über-trendy headphone line, Beats by Dre.
